Marissa Goodbody, More Interviews

Marissa Goodbody

QUESTION –  Today we expand beyond just interviewing a trader as we get to know one of the key players on the Award Winning Fintech Trading Software Team at Trade Ideas.

Thank you for taking the time Marissa to participate in the Q & A session. Before we start in detail. Would you like to share with everyone who may not know, who you are, what you do, where you live and what is your role at Trade Ideas. (Trade Ideas provides state of the art backtesting a.i. scans, charts and Holly algorithm strategy live trade alerts.)

My name is Marissa Goodbody and I have worked with Trade Ideas for 10 years while residing in North San Diego, CA. During that time I have managed our Billing and Support departments along with managing our Referral Partners Program. As the Referral Partner Manager, I maintain affiliate relationships while providing customer service to new and existing affiliates. I also report on affiliate activity, find new ways to improve and increase performance, and recruit new partners.

QUESTION – What are the monetary benefits of becoming a Trade Ideas referral partner and who can apply.

There is great potential to make a passive income as a Trade Ideas Referral Partner. Anyone can apply to be a Trade Ideas Referral Partner but what makes a great prospect is someone who has experience with our product and believes in it as well.

Our commission rate is quite generous. It starts out at 20% for partners and as they increase their sales performance, it can quickly goes up to 35%. Additionally, affiliates can recruit other referral partners and earn an extra 5% on those sales. We have had successful affiliates make anywhere from $1k a month to over $20k a month.

QUESTION – What failure or setback both professionally and personally have you experienced that has set you up for latter success?

When I graduated from college in 2005, I left my home town in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to Los Angeles with hopes working in production. It didn’t take long until I started to realize that I was a small fish in a very big pond. When it came to finding paid work, I was having a hard time and I didn’t want to compromise my morals to achieve success. I was running out of money and options. Meanwhile, I met a friend in North San Diego who offered a free place for me to stay and get my feet on the ground. So, without saying, I accepted the offer. I had intentions to return to LA and try again, but got sucked into the San Diego vortex, and since, never left. Good thing I ended up in San Diego because that is where I met my husband and met Philip Smolen, who later offered me a job at Trade Ideas.

QUESTION – Outside of working for your CEO Dan Mirkin (sorry Dan I had to get that in), what strange or unusual habit do you have and enjoy?

I really like watching the show, Ancient Aliens. My husband teases me about it but I’ve learned to embrace it. I have always enjoyed learning about human history and the discovery and analysis of artifacts. Also, there’s something about the unknown that has always fascinated me so clearly, it had me at “Aliens.” I’m not saying that we’ve been visited by aliens but I find the concept intriguing.

QUESTION- How would you describe what makes a successful Trade Ideas referral partner – what support do you provide to assist?

I find that partners who have the greatest advantage are the ones who have a dedicated website reviewing or marketing our product, a large social media following, and/or a trading room where others can view our product in action. With any referral partner that registers, I reach out to them personally and offer assistance. Those who take me up on the offer receive a training on the referral program along with marketing tips that can help them with conversions. Additionally, we have an outstanding support team. So, at any time, partners can join our free weekly webinars for software or scanning questions. >>

QUESTION : Congratulations on your new baby. How are you juggling both work and life responsibilities? What challenges and also joys do both present.

Thank you! It can be challenging at times juggling work, motherhood, marriage, and don’t forget, trying to make time for yourself. However, I am fortunate that Trade Ideas allows us to work from home. I always wanted to be a career woman and of course right when my career started to take off, that’s when the kids started to as well. It’s funny life happens like that.

I basically live on my computer. The moment I wake up the morning I am online answering emails, chats, and calls and I have to do this all while getting the kids dressed, fed, and ready for daycare. For a while, my oldest child would get upset and act out, sometimes hitting my computer or throwing my phone. I could tell there was some resentment building up. I had to teach myself how to balance my work life around my family life. So, I try to stay off of my devices when I am not working and dedicate that “off time” to my kids.

QUESTION – What advice would you give your younger self ?

After working for a company that specializes in financial software, I would go back and tell my younger self to invest. Whether it is in real-estate or the stock-market, I think it is wise to invest young so you can generate wealth over time. Also, since I learn best by doing, I know that I could have had an advantage studying the markets since I had more free time and energy.

QUESTION – What good & bad advice do you hear often in trading… and do you actual trade yourself?

I do not trade but I do get a lot that I should trade since we have such an amazing scanning tool. Although I do not currently trade, I am happy to share that very soon we are starting an employee Intro to Trading Course that will be livestreamed. It’s a new project consisting of several Trade Ideas employees who have no experience with trading. So, anyone could tune in and not only watch our journey but also learn with us as we cover the basics on trading and eventually learn how to incorporate Trade Ideas tools at the same time.

QUESTION – What are your favorite books to read and why?

Oh man, the only books I read right now are children books with my girls. After I get them to sleep which is around 8 PM, I either work on something or I binge watch with the hubs. I may not have any favorite books right now, but I could tell you my favorite shows. When it comes to shows, I either want to learn something or I want to laugh. So, for me it’s either comedy or a documentary, with the exception of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Right now, I am watching Silicon Valley and loving it.

QUESTION – When you have lost your mojo or focus , what do you do to get back on track?

That’s an easy one. I take a nap or go to bed early. I swear, if I can get more sleep, I am so much more productive the next day! Also, I find that when I interact with others, I become more upbeat and it can bring out my witty side.

QUESTION  – If you could have a big billboard with your favorite saying or message on it, what would it be.

Well, if I were to quote someone else, I would use this one by Ziad Abdelnour. “Life is like a camera. Focus on what’s important, Capture the good times, Develop from the negatives, And if things don’t turn out, take another shot.”

However, if I could give anyone any advice or message that I wrote personally, I would say this:

If you make a mistake, don’t be too hard on yourself. To err is human. If I can understand why I’ve failed at something, I can then teach myself what works and what doesn’t. If you can envision your mistakes as an opportunity to learn, you grow, become more self aware, and move toward a more beautiful and successful life.
